Egg Puttu / Mutta Ularthiya Puttu

                                         Puttu refers to portioned in  Malayalam. Puttu is a breakfast dish of southern Indian Cuisine.

Usually, puttu is prepared using rice flour, wheat flour.

Nowadays so many recipes are there showing how to prepare puttu using Raagi / finger millet flour.

     Puttu is one of my favorite dishes. I used to have this breakfast dish with Robusta banana mixed with it and sugar.

In  this recipe, I have used Egg also after making it scrambled Egg.




Egg- 4

Onion- 1 big

Green chili-2

Minced Garlic- 1 tsp

Chili powder- 1/2 tsp

Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp

Pepper powder- 1/4 tsp

Garam masala- 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves- 2 sprig

Oil- 1 tbsp, here I have used coconut oil

Salt to taste

Method of preparation

 Heat oil in a pan

Add curry leaves, onion, green chili.

Saute everything for a minute till it reaches the golden brown color

Add minced garlic.

Saut everything again

Add all the masala and saute it till it raw smell goes

Add the beaten eggs to it. 

Sramble it.

Add salt to taste.

Preparation of puttu - rice flour


Rice flour - 1 cup

Grated coconut 

Salt- 1/4 tsp

Water- 1/2 cup (Lukewarm water)

In a bowl, add rice flour and salt. Mix nicely.

Add lukewarm water to it, little by little, and mix well till you reach bread crumbs consistency.

Then add this to a dry mixie jar, and pulse it a couple of times, (just give a whip) to remove lumps.

Add grated coconut to it, and mix well.

Keep it aside for 5 minutes.

Keep the puttu kudam filled with water on the stove.

Take puttu kutti(cylindrical shape vessel that is used to make puttu),add 1 tbsp grated coconut fill it with prepared puttu flour .

 Add 3 tbsp of egg mixture as the second layer and fill the rest with Rice flour (puttu flour) and close it with the lid.

Keep it on the puttu kudam or above a pressure cooker 

Steam for 10 minutes or till done. Serve it .
