Green Gram with Coconut / Cherupayar Thoran

 


                                          

Yum green gram with coconut



Ingredients

Green Gram / Cherupayar-2 cups
Grated coconut- 3/4 cup
Garlic-3-4 crushed
Green chili-3-4
Mustard seeds
Coconut oil
Curry leaves
Onion- 3 medium size, sliced
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste


Method

Soak cherupayar for at least 4 hours, I have soaked it overnight.
Transfer cherupayar to a pressure cooker and add water, and salt to taste. Pressure cook it , till one whistle comes. (It should get cooked).
Heat oil in a pan, pop mustard seeds, add curry leaves.
Add sliced onion and green chili.
Saute it for a few minutes, till it reaches golden brown.
Add garlic( crushed) to it, saute again.
Add turmeric powder and salt to taste.
Saute again.
Add grated coconut and stir for a few seconds.
Add cooked green grams to it.
Cook for 1-2 minutes on a low flame.
Remove from fire.
Serve it with Rice.
