Bitter gourd Curry

Yum Pavakka Curry


Bitter melon-2  sliced into cubes
Shallots- 20-25 cut into straight pieces
Green chili- 2  sliced into  small pieces
Grated coconut- 1/2 cup
Ginger- 1/2 inch  size piece- crushed
Tamarind- soaked in water


Cut Bitter melon into cubes.
Take a vessel, add sliced bitter melon to it. Add water and salt.
Boil it nearly 10- 15 minutes on a medium flame and drain it. Bitter melon should get cooked. This procedure is to reduce the bitterness.
Take a manchatti or clay pot and add the cooked bitter melon, sliced green chili, crushed ginger, sliced shallots, salt to taste, and tamarind water. Close the clay pot with a lid , first cook on a medium flame, and then on a low flame.
Then add grated coconut and mix everything nicely.
Finally, add 1 tsp coconut oil and curry leaves.
Serve it with Rice.
