Cherupayar Curry


Cherupayar Curry


Onion- 1 medium-sized
Green chili-2
Grated Coconut- 1 cup
Green gram(cherupayar)- 3/4 cup
Curry leaves
Salt - to taste
Coconut oil
Chili powder- 1 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder- 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds
Water- 3/4 cup


Soak the green gram for 7-8 hours and pressure cook them with garlic, salt, and water.
Heat oil in a pan.Pop mustard seeds. Add curry leaves.
Add sliced onion and green chilies.
Saute everything for a few minutes till it becomes golden brown color.
Meanwhile, in a mixer grinder add turmeric powder, chili powder, and grated coconut. Add little water and grind the coconut to a smooth paste.
Add this ground coconut paste and salt to taste, to the pan, and add water to it.
Let it boil for a few minutes.
Add cooked cherupayar to it. Boil again for a few minutes.
Serve it with Puttu/Chappathi.
