Kerala Style Meen Mulakittathu
Kerala have lots of coastal areas and back waters .Hence kerala is blessed with sea foods and fresh water fishes .We can also get fresh fishes from prawns farms and fish farms .

Varieties of fishes are available in kerala ,among them karimeen (pearl spot) is very much popular all around the world .
Keralites used to prepare different types of fish curries as I specified in my previous blog : Kerala style Fish curry with coconut milk. Kerala Style Meen Mulakittathu curry is prepare in clay pot (manchatti) .You can keep the fish curry for two to three days with or without refrigeration. You can also add raw mango instead of kudampuli to prepare Kerala Style Meen Mulakittathu curry . Kerala Style Meen Mulakittathu curry is serve with Rice or Tapioca.
This dish is a spicy delicious fish curry, prepared in an authentic traditional method.
It’s recipe is given below:
Kerala Style Meen Mulakittathu/Meen Mulaku chaaru curry
Ingredients
Fish – 1kg (Here I have used Ayala)
Chilli powder -2 ½ tspoon
Turmeric powder- ¼ tspoon
Salt – to taste
Water -2 cups
Shallots- 10-15 sliced
Ginger- sliced
Curryleaves
Green chillies-3-4
Vinegar
Method
1)Make a masala paste with turmeric powder and chilli powder and keep it aside.
2)Crush shallots,ginger ,green chillies and curry leaves
3)Take a claypot(manchatti) , and arrange cleaned and washed fish pieces in it,
Then add masala paste,also add crushed shallots,ginger, green chillies and curry leaves.
Then add required amount of water and salt to taste and bring it to boil after adding vinegar.
(Note: you can either use vinegar, kudampuli or raw mango as per your taste.In this curry inorder to increase the spicy taste, you can add green chillies as your taste preferences.)
Finally add one teaspoon coconut oil and serve it with rice.
